Drive Electric, Drive Smart: EV Leasing with Hornet Leasing
Electric vehicles are no longer a niche choice - they're fast becoming the default for drivers who want lower running costs, a smoother drive, and a smaller environmental footprint. At Hornet Leasing, we make the switch to electric simple, with EV leasing deals to suit every kind of driver, from compact city runabouts to full-size family SUVs.
Leasing an EV comes with real, everyday advantages: cheaper running costs than petrol or diesel, the convenience of charging at home, and a noticeably quieter, smoother ride. Because you're leasing rather than buying, you're also never stuck with outdated tech - when your contract ends, you simply move on to the latest model with the newest battery range and features.
Thinking about leasing a car or van but not quite sure how it all works? You're in the right place. This guide walks you through everything from how a lease actually works day to day, right through to what happens when your contract comes to an end - so you can lease with confidence.
Leasing gives you the use of a brand new car or van for a fixed period, in return for a fixed monthly payment - without the long-term commitment of ownership.
Rather than buying a vehicle outright or taking out a loan to own it, you're effectively renting it over an agreed term, typically between two and four years. When your contract ends, you simply hand the vehicle back and move straight on to your next one.
It's a popular option because it takes a lot of the stress out of running a vehicle. There's no need to worry about depreciation, no scramble to sell your old car privately, and no large lump sum tied up in something that's constantly losing value.
You pay a set amount each month, drive a well-maintained, up-to-date vehicle, and know exactly where you stand financially for the length of your agreement. Leasing suits all kinds of drivers - whether you're an individual after a straightforward, hassle-free way to drive a newer car, or a business wanting to manage cash flow and keep your fleet current without tying up capital.
Getting started with a lease is more straightforward than most people expect.
Here's how the process typically unfolds:
One thing worth knowing: if you currently own a car or van outright, or you're still paying it off on finance, we can often take it in as part exchange when you take out a new lease with us - not every broker offers this, but it can make switching over that bit easier.
There's a lot to like about leasing, which is why it's become such a popular way to get behind the wheel:
Leasing isn't the right fit for everyone, and it's only fair to be upfront about where it can catch people out:
A few extra points that often come up when people are weighing up whether to lease:
When your contract comes to an end, returning your vehicle is designed to be a simple, stress-free process - here's what to expect:
Before collection
We'll be in touch ahead of your end date to arrange collection or drop-off, so there are no surprises.
It's worth giving the vehicle a good clean, inside and out, before it's returned. A tidy, well-presented vehicle makes the inspection process smoother.
Check for and remove any personal belongings, including anything tucked away in door pockets, the glovebox, or the boot.
Make sure you have both sets of keys, the vehicle handbook, and any accessories that came with the car, such as a charging cable for EVs.
The inspection
The vehicle will be assessed against the BVRLA's Fair Wear and Tear guidelines, which set out what's considered reasonable for a vehicle's age and mileage. Everyday marks like small stone chips or minor scuffs on alloys are generally accepted.
Anything beyond fair wear and tear - such as larger dents, scratches through the paintwork, cracked glass, or excessive interior staining - may result in additional charges.
If your annual mileage has been exceeded, an excess mileage charge will apply, calculated on the miles over your agreed allowance.
A few tips to avoid unexpected charges
Get any minor bodywork or alloy damage repaired before return where possible - this is often cheaper than the charge you'd face otherwise.
Keep an eye on your mileage throughout the contract rather than leaving it as a surprise at the end. If you're on track to go over, it's usually more cost-effective to top up your mileage allowance in advance than to pay excess charges after the fact.
If you're unsure whether something counts as fair wear and tear, just ask us before your return date - we-re always happy to talk it through.
What happens next
Once the vehicle has been collected and inspected, that's it - your lease is complete. If you're ready for your next vehicle, we can get the ball rolling on a new lease straight away, so you're never left without a car or van for long.
